THE DAVIS CUP. AMERICA INVITES CHALLENGES. NEW YORK, Jan. 7. The United States Tennis Association has sent a letter to the various national tennis bodies inviting Davis Cup challenges. and pointing out that it is essential that challenges should arrive previous to the 15th March, only valid extenuating circumstances excusing lateness. SPAIN CHALLENGES AMERICA. INDIA AND JAPAN LIKELY TO ENTER. NEW YORK, Jan. 7. The United States Lawn Tennis Association has received a Davis Cup challenge from the Spanish Lawn Tennis Association. It appears probable that India and Japan will also challenge, thus making at least three countries which have not before entered the competition. o VISIT OF N.S.W. TEAM. The Wanganui and Taranaki Associations are to be congratulated upon arranging for a visit of the above firstclass players. Such exponents as N. and F. Peach, to say nothing of Capt. Marsh. Dr. Gregg, Henderson and Watts, are seldom seen in these part. N. Peach recently beat Brookes in Australia and the brothers Peach hold the N.S.W. doubles championship, also the Sydney Club captaincy. The N.S.W. team have just beaten the New Zealand reps, at Auckland after a close contest, and many critics regard the Taranaki-Wan-ganui team as being almost equal to the New Zealand reps. #The match will be a whole day one, commencing early on Friday morning next on the Wanganui lawns.
