ENGLISH MUNICIPAL CONTESTS

THE LABOUR SET-BACK. LONDON, Nov. 3. An analysis of the returns in the municipal contests show that 747 Labour candidates contested 70 borough and 199 were returned. The worst defeats were at Liverpool and Bradford, where the entire tickets of 23 each failed to win a single seat. A similar complete failure is reported from sixteen other boroughs. At the municipal election’s in Gias* gow, the Labourites gained 20 seats, and now hold 44 out of 113.
