FORDELL NOTES.

The rainfall for October was abnormally heavy, amounting to 7.87 inches. The rainfall for the 2 4 hours ending at 9 a.rfi. on October Ist is included in this total. The season not being as f.orward as was anticipated, it has been decided to postpone the Fordell Flower Show for a week. This will now probably be held on December 10th. Epidemic sickness is still rife in Fordell. measles being now the most prevalent complaint. The school attendance is much reduced in consequence. For some time past the number of children present have been half th e roll number. For the first time for many years—perhaps in the history of the school —no child, will this year qualify for a certificate of good attendance. An old fashioned service and con cert was K iven by the Fordell Bible Class on Friday, 22nd ult., in the Fordell Presbyterian Cnurch, which was well filled by an appreciative audience. The programme presented by the young people was of a high order, and the concert was one of the most successful which have been held for a considerable time. ' Instrumental and vocal music was rendered by Mr Dobbin, the. Misses E. Christie, Jean Christie, May Christie, Agnes McGoyern, Doreen McGovern, M. Charteris, M. Stockman, O. Barnes, A. Pollard, and Masters N. and A. Charteris. Recitations were contributed by Nessie Charteris. May Christie, Marjory Stockman, Albert Charteris, and Laurie Ciochetto- Mr Don Sutherland gave an interesting description of an evening’s experience in a Belgian village within the battle zone during the Great War. At ihe conclusion of the concert, on the motion of the chairman, Mr J. Charteris, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who had helped to make the evening such a success. A bountiful supper was provided by the Bible class members, and the proceedings were brought to a close by singing the National Anthem. As a result of the concert about five guineas will be available for the Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church.
