SHOCKING AFFAIR
WOMAN IN A CRITICAL STATE. STRUCK ON THE HEAD WITH AN AXE. HER SON ARRESTED. (Per Press Association.) AIA%ILAND. Nov. 3. Suffering from a large wound on the top of her head. Mrs. Norah Stearpoint was admitted to the Auckland Hospital to-day Irom Henderson. She was unconscious when admitted, and is not expected to live. As the result, of information received the police proceeded to Henderson and found Mrs. Stearpoint lying on the floor of the kitchen. She was unconscious, with blood flowing from a wound in her head. Close to the body were a small axe and a broom. The blade of the axe was smeared with blood. The condition of the room indicated that a struggle had taken place, ot the wound revealed the fact that the brain had been penetrated, and that the woman was in a most critical condition. The police arrested Frederick Arnold Stearpoint in connection with the affair. He is 23 years of age and a son of the deceased. From a statement he has made, it is believed he had a quarrel with his mother. He appeared in the Court this afternoon charged with causing actual bodily harm, and was remanded.
