THE IRISH SITUATION.
VATICAN AND IRELAND. ROME, June 11. A semi-official communication from the Vatican disassociates itself from the so-called Irish Ambassador at Rome. The Vatican declares that it took no action which might be construed as an acknowledgement, nor was any of the personnel of the Roman Curia present at the recent reception of the Ambassadors. CAMPAIGN OF MURDER. BRITAIN WILL NOT BE TERRORISED. LONDON, June 13. Mr Churchill, in an article in the Sunday Herald on the Irish murder campaign, states that no nation ever established its title deeds by a campaign of assassination. The British nation, after coming grimly through the slaughter of Armageddon, will not be scared by the squalid scenes enacted in Ireland. She may be alienated, irritated, and ultimately infuriated, but not terrorised. Two things the British nation will never grant to the Irish, whether the appeal be violent or conciliatory: She will never concede an independent republic, nor forcibly compel Ulster to participate in the Dublin Parliament. COMPENSATION CLAIMS. NEARLY THREE MILLIONS DAMAGES. LONDON, June 12. It is officially stated that since Ist January, the claims for compensation for malicious destruction of property in Irelan.d have totalled £2.718,000 sterling.
