THE NEW CRITERION HOTEL.
By an unfortunate and regrettable transposition of a sub-heading in our yesterday’s report of the previous day’s proceedings of the Wanganui Licensing Committee, it was made to appear that an unsatisfactory police report, supplemented by the condemnatory evidence of Sergt. Bourke, applied to the New Criterion Hotel (of which Mr. C. G. Khimes is the licensee), instead of to the hotel to which the report and evidence actually referred. Fortunately the error was made obvious to our readers by the fact that the name of the licensee of the hotel concerned was mentioned in the report, thus making it clear that the reflections therein contained could have no reference either to Mr. Rhimes or his licensed premises. As a matter of fact the police report on the New Criterion was devoid of anything in the slightest degree derogatory to the conduct of that, house. We regret the unfortunate error. The excellence of the appointments of the New Criterion Hotel aud the manner in which Mr. Rhimes conducts it, could leave no one in doubt as to the inaccuracy of the report.
