A large public gathering at Timaru last night farewelled Dean Tubman, who, after 30 years as parish priest there, has been transferred to Hokitika. Dr. W. R. Loughnan presided and the speakers expressed keen regret at the Dean's departure a feeling which is shared by the community in general. A beautifully illuminated address and a sub stantial purse were presented to tfie Dean, whose work in building the parish and securing the erection of a handsome Basilica was highly extolled, and the address mentioned that great efforts had been made to induce the authorities to allow him to remain in Timaru. Fathei O’Sullivan, transferred from Temuka to Upper Hutt, was a Ist given a present and a regretful fare well.—Press wire.
