WANGANUI RAM FAIR.
The Wanganui Ram Fair was held yesterday at Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co.’s yards, when some 1 200 rams were submitted to auction. Flock Lincolns and Romneys were not in much demand. In flock Lincolns the highest prices were obtained by Messrs W. H. Wybourne and Wm. Birchc. who averaged 7. 1-8 and 5% guineas respectively. In flock Romneys the highest averages were obtained by Messrs M. Hunter, Wm. Peat, and Blair and Hunter, whose sheep averaged 4 % to 5 guineas, and were of excellent quality. South.downs siVd. 'freely, Messrs' Ellis Bros.’ and Bayly Bros.’ entries being keenly competed for at prices from 3 to 10 % guineas. Border Leicesters sold better than for some years. Mr G. V. Pearce’s entry making from 5 to 6% guineas and Thos. Currie’s 3 guineas. In stud Lincoln rams Mr W. H. Wybourne secured the top (trice of 51 guineas, the next highest price being secured by the late J. D. Hughes’s estate. 50 guineas. The entries submitted on account of the two latter breeders were much admired. and great credit is due to them. A large proportion of the sheep passed in was sold privately.
