FARMERS' CO-OP. ORGANISATION SOCY. OF N.Z., JLTD.
WEEK ENDING 6th DECEMBER,
1919
At Okaiawa on Monday there was a small yarding of cattle. Store cows sold well at prices slightly easier than last week's r ates. The demand for well gro-.vn yearling heifers was good, but steers were only saleable at very low money. Quotations: — Forward cows £11/12/6, others £9, yearling steers £4/11/-, Jersey cross heifers to £&/15/ small yearling heifers £3, bulls to £9/12/6. At Eltham on Wednesday we held our usual fortnightly sale. There was a large entry of good forward cows, which sold at prices iw the vendors' favour. Export buyers were operating, and this fact had the tendency to steady the market. Fat cows made £13/S, forward cows £10 to £12/10, others £6 to £9, 2-year-old heifers £6/14/-, forward 3-year bulls £13/2/6, yearling heifers £4 12/6. dairy cows, to £11/5/-, heifers £9/15/-. ' '
At Manaia on Tuesday cattle came forward in large numbers, but the entry of sheep was hardly as large as the offerings at our late sales. Although bidding was slow, we managed to sell practically the whole of the entry of big cattle. There was a limited demand for well grown yearling heifers, but small sorts and steers were hard to quit. Fat sheep sold well, but store ewes and wet'iers showed a decline in values. ,We quote:-—Fat ewes to 31/11, small 2tooth wethers to 2 0/10, woolly store ewes 23./-, fat cows £13/2/6, forward cows £10 to £12, others £7 to £9, 3-year-old forward steers to £11/14/-, 2-year-old heifers to £6/10/-, well-grown yearlings to £6. yearling steers to £3 10/-, dairy cows to £13/5/-, heifers to £1.2/10/-, store pigs to £3, weaners to 31/-, bulls to £lb. I
At Waverley on Friday we had a good ent: ,- of both sheep and cattle. In the former class there was a large percentage of 2-tooth wethers. For these there was a limited demand, j and although prices showed a decline vendors had come prepared to meet the market, and we were able to dispose of a fair proportion of the entry. Fat sheep sold well. For-' ward cows and heifers brought good money, but young stock were dull of sale. Quotations: — 2-tooth wethers 21/9 to 25/9, fat ewes jaid -wethers 29/1, 4 6 rams at 27/-, ewes and lambs 22/-, forward cows to £8 1.7/6, 2-year-old heifers £7/7/-, ■.purling heifers £2, dairy heii'ei.s £10.
