A LIBERAL MEETING
An invitation to Liberals to mcc in Wellington in about a week's tiin' has been issued. There are ver; many things for the Liberals to dis cuss: the Reform suggestions of per mauent coalition, the menace of Pro gressives and Welfare Leagues an( the growth of Labour. It is prob : able that the iirst matter mentionec will be the one most discussed. Th< acting-leader of the' Party, the Hon W. D. S. MacDonaki. has carefully avoided being drawn upon the question, but the indications are that he and his fellow-ministers are not keeping their mouths shut simply because they have nothing to say. If the Liberal Party should decide to maintain—or resume—its independence, it will have to consider its policy at an early date, and it is suggested that this will be one of the matters before the conference. The General Election is still some months away, as Parliament will not meet until July, and a collapse in mid-season is not thought likely, but already -here are signs of awakening on the part oi' Ministers. Country districts are being visited most assiduously, and the^'e are more promises of beneficial legislation than for some yaars past.
