THE DRIVERS' DISPUTE.

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, January 23

Considerable interest attaches to ;the second conference in reference to the drivers disputes, which opened in Wellington to-day. Those present represent the employers and •drivers' unions from all over New Zealand. The men are asking for substantial increases f in wages and much improved conditions' of work. The first conference, held in November last, proved abortive. The /employers offered to increase the wages, but were disinclined to alter any of the existing conditions. The offer was placed before the individual unions, and was rejected. The dispute was then referred to Transport Workers' Federation, at whose suggestion a second conference was\ convened. The proceedings are in camera.
