THE RUNANGA MURDER.
GEEYMOUTH, December 3
In the Runanga murder case, Dr. Usher eaid that Hall was admitted to the Hospital in a highly critical state. He described the wounded man as being paralysed in the limbs and in part of the stomach. He had examined Coulthard, who was perforated near the heart by a bullet.
John Pendcr said that on two paydays prior to the murder he walked from his stables on to the Runanga road, and there met a man with a bicycle. The latter asked where the State Mine office wae situated, and said he had lost his way. He asked, "Did not the mine car come from town this morning?", and received an affirmative reply, and told that if Hall had picked a bag up he would get it. The conversation then turned to the New Zealand Cup, prisoner stating that he favoured Hose Pink.
The Magistrate: We don't want that. Mr Hannan: I desire it. It is very important in the chain of evidence.
The Magistrate: Very well!
Witness, a fortnight later, met the came man about a mile on the Greymouth side of the ecene of the tragedy. They stopped and had a conversation about the Cup. He had no hesitation in identfying the accused as the same person.
At the murder trial the evidence so far related to Egger's securing a car at Hokitika and going to' Jackson's en route to Christchurck. Detective Abbot then detailed the arrest in Christchurch, as already published.
