KILLED IN ACTION.
L. P. GAVE
Yesterday the sad news was received of cho death of Leonard P. Cave, I killed in action in France. "L.P." was known far and wide/and was respected and loved by all . who were privileged to know him. He was it perfect specimen of the highest type of our New Zealand manhood, a man iOf high ideals, ever staunch and true to his friends. On the cricket field his reputation was widespread, and he was : probably the finest cricketer who has 1 ever represented Wanganui. He was educated at the Aramoho Public School and the Wanganui Collegiate School. He was a member of the School First Eleven, and earned a high reputation as a fast' bowler and a sound batsman. After leaving school he played for the i Wanganui' Cricket Club in represemxitive cricket for many years. No other piayer in Wanganui could claim, such consistent performances with, bat ;.nd ball as the late L. P. Cave. He also represented Wanganui on the hockey field, and was a first-class exponent of the art of boxing. The chief characteristic of the deceased soldier was the clean &nd manly, way in which he invariably played the game. He was a lover of fair play and square dealing, and hated all bitterness.and bad sport. As lie was in athletics, so he was in private and business life, and consequently he endeared himself to all who canie in contact with him. New Zealand has lost many fine men in this great conflict, but no finer man has made the great sacrifice thaa the late Leonard Cave.
