Word has been received that Gunner M. J. McArtney, of Wanganui, iias been severely wounded in head and thigh. Word has been receved that' Private L. ,}. Hutton, forßh:riy a well-known resident of Fordeli di-trict, was wounded in France on October■ 12tli. Private Arthur ±50. c, who, previous to enlisting, was in the employ of Messrs McGruer and Co. here, has been wounded in the head, but not seriously. Mr J. D. Quin has received advice that his eldest son, Private W. J. Quin, who was wounded a few weeks ago, i 3 doing splendidly in the Waltoix-ou-rhames Hospital. In camp his untiring energy and devotion to duty quickly attracted the attention of thY authorities, and he left the Dominion as a sergeant. His -regiment goiua direct to Egypt, he was soon in the thck of the fighting with the Senussi. From Egypt he -vent to France, where he remained till the end, with only tme brief respite of a few days in England. For his good work on the Somme he was raised to commissioned rank on the field. As a schoolmaster he gained, in an unusual degree, the confidence, respect, and affecton of the boys to whose interests he devoted himself with untiring zeal. He was a staunch churchman and a ky-reader during most of his time ;n "V.':.nganui. and was reading for Holy Orders when he heard the call to arms
