A Brisbane cable announces the death of Sir Arthur Morgan, Lieui.Governor of Queensland. The Hon. Gilbert Caxson, M.L.C., who has been on an .extended visit to Australia, returned by the Riverina. Mr. Gk W. Hean, who has been on a business visit to Australia, returned to town on Tuesday. / In a' letter from France, received in Wanganui a few days ago. Captain Hutson, late Medical - Superintendent, of the Wanganui Hospital, states that be was recovering from an attack or' trench fever. In his position of regimental surgeon, he was through the "Big Push/! and had many exciting experiences. Needless to add, he haa ,'i strenuous time attending to the woundd.
A few days ago, Mr Ales. Southcombe, of Sydenham, while running the freezing plant in connection with the bottling department of Manning's Brewery, got his right foot caught in the machinei j\. the resultant injury being to serious as te necessitate the amputation- of the leg at the knee. Mr. Southcomb.e, sem\, of Gon^iJJe lias since been advised that his son is in a very critical condition.
