CHURCH UNION.
THE MATTER SHELVED
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON. Nov. 28
At the Presbyterian General Assembly this afternoon the subject of union was proceeded with. The Rev. J. H. Mackenzie, cierk of the Assembly, moved that the Assembly, before entering upon any union with other churches, have the question of the legal position referred to the Finance Committee to consider and rpport to the n.ext Assembly, after taking legal advice on the subject.
Prof. Dickie seconded the motion. He believed there was not the slightest desire on the' part of the people for union with other churches, and for that reason, as well as the great difficulties of a legal nature, he thought it wiser to take no action.
The subject was keenly debated, and finally, the previous question was carried, and the Assembly thus shelved th,e matter.
