WELLINGTON, November 28. •a.t the. Preabyteriau General Assembly Hid subject of a union between the churches was de.-it with. The Rev. W. J. Sonnie introduced an overture from the Presbytery at Wellington, which asked the Assembly to set up a committee to confer with representatives of the sister churches as to whether a corporate union was desirable or practicable, or wh-,i/iier co-operati n should be entered -.pon, or whether there should be any scneme of material legibility of the minister and other church -Yorkers. The Rev. Elliot move:!—" That as the subject ': union h?d been discussed some years ago and disclosed antagonism on the part of the church, and tnere has since been no evidence of a chance or' opinin; and as this proposal ignores tho real union already existing between the churches, and would cut the church off from the historic Persbyterian Churcli, no committee should be appointed, but appreciation should be expressed of tue good work done by other churches."
The Rev. James Paterson seconded. Dr. G-ibb, while sympathising with the ideal of a corporate union between' churches holding the same evangelical tradition, moved that the Church should iaaV enquiry cf the Presbyteries' sessions and congregations, and, if expedient, communicate to other churches concerned the decision tl^us arrived at. 'l^e Rev. Jas. Aitken seconded, and advocated cautious procedure. The discussion is proceeding.
