PROPOSED CONFERENCE.
ROAD ON RIVER BANK
The Wanganui County Council yesterday discussed the following motion passed by the Mangawhero Road Board:—
"That the Wanganui and Waimanno County Councils be asked to appoint a committee to meet a committee ol this Board to consider the best mean* of getting the Wanganui River roai (left bank) opened up for wheel traf Ac from Upokongaro, and that Messr. Neilson, Campbell and Caines be ap Sointed to represent the Mangawherc Load Board."
The Chairman said the settlers wanted a conference of the interested local bodies, including the Waitotara County Council. He thought a road on each side of the river would be a waste of money, which could be saved, by £ bridge. He would not say which sidt the road should be on. The idea was to gefc the surveys made. There i was also a suggestion that the railway should come down the river. A conference was being called by the Chamber of Commerce. A tremendous area of the Wanganui County would be served by a railway. He moved that the request be granted and that the county commdttee should consist of Crs. Bamber, Poison and Robinson. Cr Ross said the Waitotara County would have nothing to do with the movement. ; -
Or. Robinson said the primary object of the conference would be to get a flying survey so that they coul.J decide which was the better route for the Council to sxippprt. It was decided to support the Manga whero Road Board proposal.
