MOTOR RACES
The greatest excitement and interest during the day was unquestionably centred in the motor cycle races. These were the first of their kind held in Wanganui for some time past, and so successfully did they eventuate that already a movement is on foot towards inaugurating .a club in Wanganui with the object of promoting this kind of sport. The trials to which the machines were put were severe, and fully tested their reliability. Th. ecourse was along an ordinary grass track, and the speed reached by some of the machines averj aged about 57 miles per hour —a re--markable speed all things considered. The results were as follows. — Five miles handicap; first prize £3, second 2:—
