ELECTRIC ILLUMINATIONS

On entering th© gates of the delightful grounds a wonderful sight was depicted. As a result of the untiring efforts of Messrs Talboys, Cheal and Me-. Oune, the grounds were converted into a veritable fairy laud. Klectnc iigtus dazzled everywhere, and from all sides were heard exclamations of delight. At the entrance was a 1,000-c.p; lamp. The lawn, the grandstand and th© area from the front entrance were beautifullj illuminated, and the darkness outside gave place to a soft mellow light within the- area from where the entertainments were witnessed. Around the "Royal Box," in wiuch sat the Queen, coloured lights were placed, and the words "Te Pura" were illuminated in red and amb«r lights. At the back of the grandstand ian even more delightful scene was depicted. A brilliant display of lights lined the small bridge across the pretty lake, and this reflected in the water, presented a picture of rare beauty. Myriads of variously coloured lights surrounded the tea kiosks, while the open space was lighted by dozens of fancy lanterns. Everything was attractively illuminated, and the beauty of the place was greatly enhanced by the illuminations. A projector, lent by Mr. Butler, was operated during the evenine;. The total candle-power of the electric plant installed was 12,000 ,and three liiilei of wire- were used.
