DIRECTORS EXPLAIN FALL IN
SHARES
(Per Press Association.)
r WELLINGTON, Mar. 20. The local Board of the Talisman Company (Messrs Jackson, Weston and I>r. Knight) issued the following: "The drop in the market price of Talisman shares is probably due to a report made by Dr Henderson and now being issued by the Government Mines Department, upan. (inter alia) the Karangahake field. The attention of Mr Starifield had been drawn by the Board to the report, and his reply by letter received this mornIng is as follows: ' I should not be inclined to take it too seriously. We all know that mines become exhiaueted, or unprofitable finally, but iihe Talisman has not reached that stage yet, and neither Dr Henderson nor anyone else can prove that it is near it or otherwise.' Continuing, he says: 'No. 12 winde as stall all right, and! I hope to ' get No. 9 going next week if men are; available.' This is the opinion, of our mine manager, who, more than anyone else is acquainted with the idiosyncracies of the mine and district. In considering the repofti of scientific experts, investors should•" a|Ways remember that tihe older and "pOre experienced the man, •the less lie is inclined to indulge in prophecy."
