SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Schools Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs W. Bruce, Haase, McGonagle, Upton, Conchie, the Rev J. D. McKenzie,. and i\les<lames Siddells and Comyns.

St. John's Infants: Miss O'Brien reported that .the average attendance was 5^42.65, and the roll number was 269. There were a number of cases of ill— IlttSS.

Queen's Park: Mr H. M. Payne reported that the roll averaged 309, and the daily attendance was 290. These numbers showed a small increase over those for the same period last year.

Cenfcral Infants: Miss Alexander reported that the roll number was 292; boys 159, girls 133, and average attendance 237. The attendance was affected, by sickness. The school benefited to the extent of £6 odd from the picture entertainment given by Mr Jameson. Avenue School: Mr J. Aitken reported that the attendance from the beginning of the year was as follows: First week, roll 458 average attendance 419; second week 458. 430; third week 456, 438; fourth week 456, 432; fifth week 4(50, 443; sixth week 96.3 per cent of th'» possible; daily attendance 449. " Gradually going up"; "isn't it getting a big school," "A very good record," were {imong the gratifying remarks passed iig the report was read. Shelter Shed: It was decided that the Board be approached with a view to securing an improved shed at St. John's Infants' School.
