Octobo" 7. ,i ?.T important P°int 'rising out of~" the Wellington District Bakers and Pastrycooks' Award has been decided bythe Arbitration Court, an application; for interpretation of clause Bof the euard having been made by the Inspector of Awards. The question, was, "Has., an inspector power to giant a permit t to a worker to board or lodge on lug employer's premises as the case may be, or has he only power to grant a permit to board and lodge?" In other word*, can the items be separated? The answer of the Court h as follows:—"Thequestion relates to :hi arrangement made by Godber and Co., Ltd., with certain of their employees, by which the latter are provided on the company's premises with two meals a day for which they pay. Tho parties wer« heartl on the subject at the recent sitting of the Court in Wellington. It is • clear that the arrangement in question is contrary to the provisions of the award, and that, the Inspector of Factories is not authorised to issue a permit in respect of it."- :
