HAWKE'S BAY (1) v. MANAWATU.
Hawke's Bay won the toss ard played with the sun at their backs. By means of a penalty, followed by another they entered the Bay's 25, where Miss Morrison hit behind. The black and white forwards came away, Miss H. Swainson saving finely. Miss Pitt took the ball down the field, and off-side play saved the greens. Another splendid Bay forward rush followed, CVliss J. Dobbyn sending in-field to Miss Woods, whose shot was beautifully saved by Miss McSweeney. The black nnd whites continued to press and another shot by Miss Woods enabled Miss McSweeney to hit out. Miss Robertson returned the leather to the forwards, and Miss Woods sent it in to the goalkeeper, who blocked it, but Miss Pitt charged down and notched the first goal. Hawke's Bay one, Mantawatu nil. The greens paid a visit to the black and whites' hialf, but iM,iss Gordon sent them back, and a corner was given against Manawatu*. From this the greens came right away and Miss T. Dobbyn was called on for the first time, and was equal to the occasion. A Hawke's Bay attack was returned, and a, good tussle eventuated round the Bay's goal. A big hit by Miss Morrison changed the venue of play, which was returned. Miss Topping came away and sent the bai; on to Miss Woods, and she to Miss Pitt, and she sent it back to Miss Woods, and then back to Miss Pitt, who over-ran the hall when about to shoot. A pretty piece of play gone for nothing! Up and down play ensued for the remainder of the spell, no further score being recorded when the whistle went for half-time.
Manawatu set off "with a, rush on resuming, and Miss T. Dobbyn saved, enabling Miss Burden to clea,r. Hawke's Bay then attacked, and shots by Miss Topping went wide. A typical Manawatu rush followed, Miss Burden clearing. Back to the attack went the black and whites, and a long hit by Miss Morrison went over thte line. Manawatu returned and were repulsed, Miss Birchley relieving from a difficult situation. Then Miss Robertson saved and hit down field to Miss J. Dobbyn, who centred to Miss Woods, and tight play ensued in the Manawatu circle, a penalty relieving. Miss McSweeney then brought off another great save. Then Miss Pitt shot a fine goal from a corner hit without stopping the ball, and consequently the goal was not allowed. Misses Topping and J. Dobbyn rushed the Manawatu goal, the ball being forced behind. Manawatu relieved again and visited the Hawke's Bay half, and after a good bit of forward play Miss I. McKenzie scored a. splendid goal. Manawatu one, Hawke's Bay one. Immediately after the bully-off, the Bay put in a great rush, and Miss McSweeney cleared finely and hit behind. Despite determined efforts Hawke's Bay could not get through, and the game ended: Manawatu one, Hawke's Bay one.
