MARTON JUNCTION SPORTS.

The proposal to hold athletic sports at Marton Junction has been most enthusiastically taken, up, and both Mr C. E. Gibbons and Mr Brewer (the popular secretary), are pushing matters for all they are worth. A general meeting of the club was held last night, Mr C. E. Gibbons presiding. The sports diefifnitely fixed for Wednesday, SQth Feb., will include some very fine events, including three motor cycle races —novice five miles, ten mike (open)^ and 15 miles. Sprinters are well provided for, and, generally speaking, ia programme has 'been arranged that is sure to find favour with athleftes betoause of the liberal prize list, and also the public in view of the fine lot of competitors it is sure to attract. The treasurer reported £14 to the credit of the club already, and such a balance is naturally accepted as an earnest of what is to come. Supt. J. H. McDonald and exCaptain Gronn will have charge of the Fire Brigade events; W. Head, sheep guessing; and A. Gordon, chain stepping. Mr S. Dustin offered to take charge of the refreshments and afternoon tea, which will be sold at town prices. Mr Tortensen is expected to act as handicapper for the motor cycle events.
