The mission steamer brings news of a native massacre ab'Abau, Papua. A gang headed by a notorious chief raided several villages and murdered the natives wholesale. They then attacked the camp of a prospector named Arnold. After a desperate fight Arnold's party drove off the attackers, killing one and wounding three. Parties of native police attempted to surround the raiders, who killed one and wounded two police, and then escaped. A punitivo force has been despatched.
