TIMARU'S ANNIVERSARY
CPer Press Association.) TIMARU, Dec. 16. _ There was fine though dull weather for the ianiniversary holiday. There were no special arrangements in town, except the celebration of the jubilee of the 'arrival of the Echunga, the second direct immigrant ship to Timaru. Twenty-seven passengers (including one born on the voyage) were present from far and n-ear, and their wives, husbands and descendants made up 120. The party had lunch together, and spent the afternoon in a social way. Mr. J. Craigie, M.P., was invitee! to be present. Ho came to the Dominion a few years latetr, but three of his sisters 'were Echunga passengers. The Caledonian sports ac Pleasant Point attracted many holiday makers. These aporto passed off well, subscriptions being raised to send the Tinraru Fire Brigade to Wanganui in February to try to retain the champion shield. The men o.ro practising diligently.
