SNOW IN PALMERSTON NORTH.

(Per Press Association ) PALMERSTON X., Oct. 27 A heavy fall of snow, lasting an hour, was experienced in Palmerston. on Saturday afternoon. This is unprecedented at this time of the year for the last 25 years. The Tararuas and Ruahines were covered with a beautiful white mantle, which encircled the whole district, presenting a magnificent sight. To-day, all appearances of the snow had vanished, but as the result of the rapid melting, the Manawatu River, -which provides the chief drainage of the district, has grown to a swollen torrent inundating the low-lying country. Today the weather has again changed back to summer.
