A FIERCE GALE
Tho gale, which struck Wanganui ore Saturday was probably one of the most severe experienced hero for a long time. y\ anganui has apparently not been alonem this respect, as the telegrams denote. Despito the velocity of the wind, no damage of any consequence resulted, savo for the collapse of a telephone post or soi to the south. From various towns on tho Main Trunk, news comes thatheavy falls of snow occurred, and also down Palmerston way. The departure of five of the steamers in port was delayed until yesterday morning, when f instead of being a real winter's day^ coid and wet, with a fierce gale, it wa»~ beautiful summer.
