ENTRIES CLOSE NEXT WEDNESDAY.

The feature of a show which appealsto a vast majority of show goers is undoubtedly the horse section, end the centre of attraction is generally the ring events. Wanganui has always -been famous for its horses, and especially for its jumpers. So we may look forward to the jump events this year being well up to the standard of previous years. On the first day, in addition to the several hack and harness classes, there will bo several competitions decided, the chief of which will be the Hunters competition. In this event" the judge has to take into consideration the value of a horse as a hunter as well as hia jumping ability. A valuable lot of troohies are allotted to the placed horses in" this event. The winner secures & handsome trophy valued at £10, besides a oash prize of 10 soys., both of which are donated by the Licensed Victuallers' Association. The second horse wins Messrs. lhain and Co.'s handsome silver cup, while Messrs. Young and Collins give a useful trophy in the shape of a hunts, man's companion to the runner-up in this event. The leaping event for lady riders on the first "day has been substituted by a maiden leaping competition, for which Mr. Fred Moore donates five guineas to the winner. This event is open only to horses which have never won a leaping event in the show ring A gent's driving competition, smglo horse and a tandem driving competition, figure 8 and twice round the ring, besides a pony leaping competition for ponies under 13 hands and another for ponies under 14-2. heln to fill the bill for the first afternoon; Tn the pony leaping competitions no jockey nor apprentice will be allowed to ride" The chief ring events for the second day.are a Bending comnetition open to ladies and gentlemen, a ladies' driving competition. In this event, the ladies, unlike the men, will have the privilege of holding the reins in both hands, whilst negotiating the course, l here is also a walking competition with tno usual reservation—no ambling or pacing allowed. Then there is the bie jumping event, steeplechase style, for which Messrs.
