Mr. Thomas has promised favourable consideration of the request of a Parliamentary deputation that Australian materials be used in the construction of the Commonwealth offices in London. It was argued that it would advertise what Australia produces. SYDNEY, October 24. Before the commission or inquiry into the establishment of iron and steal works at Newcastle, Mr. Delprat, general manager of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, stated that the company would spend over one million on the works during the first two or three years, and employ four or five hundred men. The company would be prepared to supply all the needs of Australia. MELBOURNE, October 24.. Giving evidence before the Commission inquiring into life-saving provisions on ships, Mr. Balsillie, wireless expert, stated that 85 per cent of the wireless business in Australia was what is known a3 "love and kisses," namely, messages between friends. Only 5 per cent, were bona-fido commercial messages.
