FLOODS IN OTAGO.

(Per Press Association.) DTJNEDIX. October 24. Heavy rains have fallen in the hilly country forming the watershed of the Taieri river, and have resulted in a marked rise in the river and in the Silverstream which flows into it. A considerable area of low-lying land between Gladfield and the riverside is flooded, and in some cases only the tops of the fences are visible for a. distance of about two miles. The railway line is under water, but so far trains hare got through without much difficulty. At present it is not thought that the losi will bo serious. Lee Creek, in the Maungaturc district, also overflowed its banks, and a large area is flooded. A heavy fall of snow is reported from Rock and Pillar, near Middlemareh.
