WANGANUI WOOL, SKINS, HIDES AND TALLOW SALES.
LEVIN AND CO 'S REPORT
We held our usual sale to-day (Thursday), offering 2-0 bales, 88 bags of wool, 3000 sheepskins, 720 hides and calf skin^, 8 casks, and 53 tins of tallow, besides horsehair, cow tails, etc. There was tho usual attendance of buyers, and eomp^/tition was vfery keen. The rise in shipping freights will be felt now, and we note to-day how it is affecting the prices in both wool and skins, to the extent of the recent advance. We ouote: — Wool: Crossbred 7£d to B£d, dead wool 7£d to Bj-d, crutchinge 4£d to o£d, pieces and bellies ofd. Skius: Half-breds B£d, crossbreds 7|d to B£d, dead skins 6|d to 6£d, dead hoggets oia, shorts 3a, oroken crossbreds 4£d, lambs 4£d to 6d, green crossbreds 6s to 8s 3d, damp cro-ssbreds 6s to 8s 6d, salted crossbreds 2s to 7s Id. Hides: Firm at last rates. We quote: Ox hides heavy 5 3-8 dto 7|d, ditto medium 6 : \d to 7£d, cow hides (butchers) 6 7-8 dto 7 l-Bd, ditto (settlers) 6|d to 6£d, calf skins BJd to 10d, cut and slippy hides 5 3-8 dto 6 3-Bd, cut and slippy calves 4|d to BJd, horse hides 6s 6d to 9s 3d, yearlings s^d to 6]d. Tallow in shipping condition £27 15s to £28 os;. and in tins £25 per ton. rforsehair Is 6d per pound, and cowtails at Is 5d per doz.
