CRUELTY TO A BULLOCK.

A SHOCKING CASE.

(Per Prpss Association.) DUNEDIN, October 24. At Milton to-day, before Mr. Bartholomew, 5.M.,, Wm. Borthwick was charged with cruelty to a bullock. Evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that the bullock was exhausted and lay down by the roadside while being driven from Akahore to Milton; that defendant broke its horns and broke its tail off; also that he dragged it to some tussocks and set fire to it while it was alive. The Magistrate said the evidence was insufficient to.prove that the burning took place before the animal was dead, but some injuries had been inflicted. Defendant was fined £5, with costs £2 17s. 6d.
