A MAORI TERRIFIED
The "Star's" Paeroa correspondent wires the following version of the sensational train incident: Three young men, including a Maori, had rather a" sensational experience while journeying from Te Aroha to Paeroa by train. Ihey were calmly sitting in the carriage when a man wearing long streamers of red ribbon entered and it is alleged, produced a revolver, askino- the three occupants if they were going to\\aihi to work, and warning them tokeep away from Waihi to save troubleThe intruder paid special attention to^ trie 'Maori, and pointing the revolver into his face, pinned a piece of red ribbon on to the Maori's coat. The Maori looked scared to death, and told his. assailant that he Vas not bound for Waihi, and as soon as the train reached Paeroa he jumped from the carriage, tore the red ribbon from his coat, -and using all the pace he could muster, endeavoured to put as great a distanceas possible between himself and the wearer of the red ribbon. The desperate man, it is stated, also produced a small bottle, which he said contained poison saying, "This will do me if I ■am nabbed."
