PARLIAMENTARY RALLY.

ECHOES. Several matters connected w<ith the recent Parliamentary Rally came before the Chamber of Commerce last ingFINANCE. - ■ The financial position has resulted better than the most sanguine expected. There was euch a large surplus that the local bodies, while having their moneys worth, are to have the "bulk of their contributions returned. The balance sheet, as submitted by the committee, showed the expenses to be about £180. Local bodies promised £95, but contributions from business people were so liberal and the tickets for the banquet sold so well, that some £57 is to be re/turned to the local bodies. Even then there will be a email balance in hand1. Mr It. W. Green, who lent his motor car for the backblocks trip, and suffered the loss of a lamp through another car colliding, is to have the lamp replaced. The balance, sheet was passed, and the committee<'s decision to refund the money was endorsed. PRESSMEN'S APPRECIATION. Mr J.Oakley Browne, in the course of a letter on behalf of the Press Gallery, after thanking the Chamber for its (invitation, said: " Unhappily, most of the members of our gallery -were debarred through stress of work from accepting the invitation, and only three —Messrs S. Muir ("Gisborae Herald"), E. Ai-mit ("New Zealand Times"), and myself, as representing the Associated' Press of New Zealand —were able to make the journey. Speaking for these three, I desire to say that we were charmed with every phase of our visit. The arrangements were perfect throughout the three days' programme, and the itinerary was euch as to ehed a brilliant light upon many features of Wanganui and its surounding districts which were previously dark to most of us. To my colleagues and myself, the excursion was a revelation of the most pleasing character, and none of us could doubt, after what we saw, that Wanganui has a great future before it. We thank you for your hospitality. We admire your progressiveness and spirit of enterprise, and may add, in. the words of Shakespeare— "May the best wishes that can be forged In youT hearts be servants to you " OTHER APPRECIATIONS. • ±£" G' ? ISnell wrote complimenting the president and the committee on the success of the Rally. He had no doubt that the town and district would, both directly and indirectly, largely benefit by the visit of a number of members of Parliament, who were thus brought in close touch with the wants and possibilities of Wanganui 1«# W \A\.
