A London cable reports that Cardinal Logue, Maynooth College, consecrated Dr. Nannix, President of the College, Coadjutor-Archbishop of Melbourne. The funeral of the late Charles Gordon Smith took place yesterday afternoon, and was very largely attended An impressive service was conducted at tho graveside by Mr. George Wilson and Pastor Edridge, of the Baptist Church. The deceased's parents reside at Hobart, Tasmania. Mr. H. G. Thornley, solicitor, -who has been in charge of tho Conveyancing Department for Messrs. Young and Tripe, solicitors, Wellington, for the last eighteen months, has left to take over "the position of managing olerk for Messrs. Corry and Cunningham, Wariganui. After 29 years' conscientious service as Clerk of the Waitotara Coxinty Council, Mr. H. E. Dymock is retiring for a well-earned rest. Failing eyesight has induced him to take this step, and yesterday ho notified the Council, giving three months' notice of his resignation. Regret wn* expressed by all the Councillors at Mr. Dymook's retirement, and many eulogistic references were made regarding his services to the Council and to the district. It may also be mentioned that Mr. Dvmock was for six years chairman of the Council. On the motion of tho chairman, the Council was unanimous in erranting Mr. Dvmock 12 months' leave of absence on full pay. It was also unanimously decided that Mr. A. S. Dymonk should bo appointed Clerk at tho same salary as his father, nntnelv. £230 a yo^r. We congratulate Mr. Dymock on his appointment, and wo ruVsuro he will be a woi"thy successor to his father.
