COUNTRY NOTES.

' - (By Our Wostmere Correspondent.) .All along tho sea coast margin, where san'd'dunes obtain, an enormous amount of sand has been shilted by these incessant gales. From a distance, the coastal region looks as if it were encased in a fog,' but more frequently it has a hazy appearance all over the sand duno areas. It is simply tho air that is laden with silicious powder or^ dust, 1 and the'wind carries such miles inland. Stranger's and travellers think it aqueous vapour arid'not powder matter,, of a silicic nature.

I have several items, but brevity necessitates the selection of one, arid that shall be the Westmere School .concert oh 'Friday, the loth inst. In luldition' to tho names mentioned 'in Thursday's local, JMisses Young, Pawson) Bretherton, Bignel t and ."Messrs "Joll, Quinri and Janies will take part. . Madame Briggs will be three by proxy j and not in person. A sketch draft of tho programme has como fluttering to my feet, so as to keep me, 1 suppose, within tho four corners of truth. I don't care a hang for my reputation. 1 want to see that hall packed from floor to ceiling on Friday, tho 14th, and with such a host of talented performers, "most of whom aro already favourites with the musicloving portion of the community of W'anganui and district," I have not the least doubt but that tho walls of tho building will at least bulge, if not burst. One thing is certain, that while many of tho audienco will have their hearts soothed, others will have their sides split.
