Tho Totalisator Commission sails for New Zealand on the 18th to conduct inquiries in the Dominion. The Legislative Council discussed tho question of prize-fighting. One member declared that it was disgraceful, and had degenerated into a matter of gato money. The Hon. Mr. Flowers said ho could sco no good in going to extremes. So long as there were suitable regulations reasonable men ought to be satisfied.
Mr. Arthur Kidman, the cattle king, declares that Australia is' gradually" losing, tho meat ancl butter, trade with Canada and the United States, which is going to New Zealand as a result of the tariff advantages under the reciprocal arrangement. He protests against allowing a trade which was pioneered and built up by Australia being allowed to drift to Now Zealand.
