All tho girls were dressed* iii.' red' or White or blue, and carried the names- of their respective, suburbs on decorated staffs. -
Trinity Young Men's Institiite had tableaux which contained- symbols ot fche manifold objects of the society. Another tableau, -\yhich was distinctly Jiovel, -was that representative of the Aramoho Zoo. Monkeys and birds formed tho main portion of tho lives..tock: The bn ds, by» the way, took quite an intelligent interest in tho speeches delivered at Cook's Gardens, chough tlteir lauihter and interjections proved somewhat disconcerting to the speakers. The procession wa>» headed by a squad of the Aiexandia Cavalry, who looked exceedingly well. The Territorials mustered strongly, all the local corps be- . lmj well representew, as were the Cadets and Boy Scouts. While the- Highland dres esnasd dt.h.t,iew wetwrtiW. land dresses and the scarlet jackets were, nndoubtedlv picture.-que, the Col- , lege boys in their "shorts" and grey fhirts^and the public school cadets in thdir businesslike uniforms wore perhaps the most admired Following was tho order of procession : Alexandra Mounted Rifles, Terrilorials. Cadets and (Scouts, carriages "-containing (1) the Mayor and member for.the district; (2) Mr A. G. Bigncll (chairman of Gonville Town Board), -and Mr John Jones (Mayor" of Wanganui East), (3) Mr F. A. Kuril (German Consul), (J) Messrs J. B. Murray *md T B Willi'ims (Harbour Board), (o)-r Me^rri F. ■"M. Spurdle (Education Board), and Geo. Murch (Town Clerk), (6 and 7) Borough Councillors and re- . vres©ntatives of other local bodies; (8) . leading Maoris. Then came tho Gartison Baud. City Band, tableaux, and ' Salvation - Army Band. After the procession had trayersed a lemrthly rout 9 through the town, a half was made in Cook's Gardens. The tableaux were drawn up in front of the terrace, while the military were paraded in the oval. *On a platform were seated the Mayors and Borough Coun-cillorgj.-of 'Wanga.nui and Wanganui TBast, representatives of the" Gonville *T.ow,n Board,-and other local bodies,' ministers' of religion and others. The ceremony •whjchif olio wed, w,as of a-most interesting nature, though there was a .marked lack of enthusiasm. The -combined choir) .which was to have becfn, present; 'did riot and the public seemed loth to- join in the singing. The cheering, however, was of *i hearty nature. • The military review was~ splendid", ■r.nd the march-past was something worth seeing,-.the'College- and Public School Cadets making a particularly , -gpod impression. The Veterans^ attended in good numbers, there being ' 31 present, and they were- warmly , ap« plaudecl when they made their appfnr---imoe. - .
