NEW PLYMOUTH, August 16. At the Taranaki Land Board meeting to-day, Mr J. McCluggage referred to a statement made in the House by Mr J. B. Hine, M.P. for Stratford, as published in Hansard, and reading as follows :—•

" In Taranaki applicants have been refused admission to the land ballots because they were hot in possession of £500, and if you are going'to stop a man who is not in possession of £500 from obtaining land under the land for settlement system, we say it is

of no use to the poor man." Mr Heslop moved "That there is not the slightest foundation for such a misleading statement, which ,is absolutely contrary to fact, and that a,copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Right Hoii. Minister of Lands.""
