AUCKLAND, '-August 15. G, Fowlds by a large and. representative deputation- of merchants and manufacturers, which waited upon the Minister this afternoon. '

Mr J: H. Gimson (president of the Chamber of Commerce, referred to the heads of the information as to the details of business matters - which were asked foi*, and said that many of the requirements appeared to be o$ an unnecessarily inquisitorial nature. Mr Fowlds, replyina:, said that he would be pleased to place their representations before his colleagues. It certainly did seem from what they had said that to make lip the returns asked for "would involve a great deal of laboitr, and it was possible that a'very considerable modification would Imeet all requirements. There had been a feeling that the statistics hitherto collected did not give all the information, -that was desn-able, nor was it as full as! was obtained tin the Australian States, and he understood that the object ot the, r.aiended form of return was to bring this into line with Australia in regard to these, returns.
