DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES.

Tho mission of the Rev. W. J. Mayers in Wanganui has been very successful, the sum of £260 19s 5d having been raised by personal donations, collections at services, and the musical meetings. This sum will more than pay the cost of the bed in the new Barnardo hospital for which Mr Mayers asked. He has expressed himself as very delighted with his visit to our town, and very grateful for all the hospitality and other kindnesses shown. Mr and Mrs Mayers, Mr Aaron, and the boys left yesterday for Marton, when they* proceed to Hunterville, Taihape, and thence to Auckland. During his stay in New Zealand Mr Mayers has been the recipient of many gifts and promises of gifts in kind, which have greatly gratified him. Flour, oatmeal, butter, and sheep have been promised for the large family in England which Mr Mayers represents, and a few days ago one good friend promised to send a good fat bullock every year as long as lie lived. Gifts of clothing for the boys with Mr Mayers have been received, and while in Wanganui nine pairs of excellent uniform trousers have been donated by the proprietors of tho New Zealand Clothing Co. This present was very timely, and is much valued. The Barnardo party will remain in New Zealand until early in August, and then proceed to Queensland and New South Wales.
