AMBULANCE SATURDAY

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—The connection between district nursing and compulsory military training seems to many to be so remote that I feel impelled to writs explaining why we, as members of the women's branch of the Defence League, are com> mencing operations by raising funds to provide a district nurse. Well, here is tho chain of reasoning. To make a good soldier we hood a man physically worth training, a man physically fit must have, good conditions in childhood, good conditions for babies, are impossible unless mothers are well tended; proper attention implies tho care of a, maternity nurse. Not every one is able to pay for such attention, therefore our first aim in helping in tho defence of our country is to provide a district nurse. ,

I notice also that a question of class feeling has been raised in a letter appearing in to-night's "Herald." Now, if our League is'to sneered the question of class must never ...weigh for one second with any of our members. Personally, I hail the formation of our branch ns a means of women of all ages, occupations and opinions meeting oh' -the* common ground of love to our owit country, and learning to understand one another's point of view, and I am sure most of our women feel as I do on this paint.—l am. etc., 'M.-'I.. PHASER.
