CORRESPONDENCE.

AMBULANCE SATURDAY

(To the Editor.) . . Sir,—The concise and able ■ letter ro the above which appeared in your columns on Saturday last, and in the columns of your evening, contemporary last evening from Miss Fraser, should suffice to set at rest any doubts as to the purpose for which Ambulance Saturday has been organised by the Women s branch of the Natxmal Defence League. The^v have no desire to clash or overlay any existing organisation, but to assist and to educate and focus as far as possible the attention of all public bodies and of all individuals to. the great need that exists for universal defensive training. To this' ond the men's branch of the. League have organised funds for stimulating the lads and young men of our public school and Defence Cadets by offering prizes ror special efficiency in shooting. And the women's branch has come forward to assist in organising and-stimulating the St. John Ambulance Associations' work by establishing; a nursing division in connection with the League. Such nursing division to bo known by the name of the National Defence League, waiiccanni Branch St. John Ambulance iNursmg Division. Thus when the great primary object of the League has been accomplished, whether the League "continues to exist as a national Advisory Council or not, its name and object is perpetuated in the nursing division, and in the prizes to be annually com-, peted for by the. cadets, I sincerely trust that all interested in the greatwork of the St. John Ambulance Association will Lbcrally assist the women of our Defence League who; have so cheerfully come forward to organise and equip a nursing division. I might, sir, here mention that instructions have been received from headquarters of the men's brigade and I am hoping when tho men are called together that it will be reformed as the Dptence League, Wanganui Branch St. John Ambulance Brigade.—l am, etc;, ■ ;
