We remind our readers of the Museum Benefit Concert to-night in the Opera House.
Tho fourteenth annual plain and fancy dress ball will be held at Castlecliff this evening.
The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be held this morning afc the Borough Chambers at 10.30 o'clock.
The usual meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union will be held in St. Paul's clasrsroem at 3 o'clock this afternoon. All interested are cordially invited.
Tho S.s. Kapiti brought lamongst other cargo yesterday anew crane for the Harbour Board. This is to be used in connection with the construction of the South Mole.
Mr J. L. Stevenson, local agent for the Tyser Line, Ltd., has been advised that their fine steamer s.s. Star of Scotland, is to sail from Gisborno on Saturday evening next for Wanganui, arriving early Monday morning. While; at this port tho s.s. Star of Scotland will ship a quantity of frozen meat from the Freezing Company's works, also wool, vtallow, pslts, etc. From Wangamii the vessel will proceed to Wellington, from where she will sail for London direct about 10th inst.
At five o'clock yesterday morning an alarm of firo was raised, tho scene of tho outbreak being in the plumbing room at the Technical School. Although tho Brigade turned out smartly and soon had the fire put out, the contents of th? room were nearly all practically destroyed. Tho room and its fittings were covered by insurance, but the (Students' own tools were not insured. When the class finished on Wednesday evening, the fires were apparently out, and all was safe, but from the appearance of the wall on the north side the firo evidently began about the stove located there.
The Museum Hall was filled,- with a largo and attentive audience last evening, when Mrs Georgia Gladys Cooley delivered an address descriptive of her personal' experience while in a dead trance. The speaker described what she said were her observations "on the other side" while in her spirit form, and'her sensations when leaving and reentering her earthly "body. At the conclusion of her address Mrs Coolev gave a number of "messages" to members of the audience.
