WEST'S PICTURES.

Although it is but a few ' weeks agosince :West?s Pictures were in Wanganui,: yet the two subjects >which- they intend to base their entertainment on is ample reason for so quick a. return. |Mr "West has booked 'tHe* Opera Housed for Monday, June■" -28th, for the express purpose .of submitting to. his". : , patrons two pictures that are at present crowding His Majesty's Theatre at Auckland nightly. One is an art study adapted from Zola's famous work, " L'Assourmoir" {Drink). This drama was made famous by the late Charles Warner in Australasia by his fine interpretation of "Coupeau." The pictorial representation of this work' is 'claimed to be unique in. every respect, ; and is. fittingly described as being : "the best sermon against "the awful: enemy to mankind —drink.''The picture is" depicted in two acts and seven scenes^ and occupies over 40 minutes of the programme. Therefore every detail'and I incident in this well-known* .story is faithfully described. Auckland papers ' speaik- very highly on the value of such a .picture as ah object lesson to both young and old. The other subject owes its great attractiveness to the fact that it supplies an animated idea of a,'mpmentous question, created 'from the much-talked-of possibility 'of an invasion of England by a foreign Power: This picture is called " The, Invaders" and contains a plot which, is 1 similar in many respects to Dv Manner's^ how famous military drama, "An' Englishman's Home," but has the great advantngeof being able to show the landing of troops and the havoc and destruction ; that would follow their march through a country. The picture is patriotic to adegree, and great excitemeirfc' and enthusiasm is aroused during ' the final scenes, when the English are seen driving enemy out of the country. Ah in.terestihg plot runs through the producjtipn, which lends an added attraction |to the story. It is promised that all other subjects to be presented will be new and of equal standard to those previously shown by this popular company.
