ANNUAL MEETING

•U'er Press Association.) CHRISTCHIJBCH,-June 15. The annual meeting of .the N.Z. Alliance commenced , x this. morning. Delegates from all pacts'.of.the Dominion were present.-. Mr }Ves}ey Spragg (President of the. Alliance) occupied the chair.-

Mr Spragg briefly welcomed all those present, congratulated the temperance party on the progress made during the last three years, and asked one and all to assist in making tho Convention the most important yet held. The Rev. F. W. Isitt submitted the annual report, which placed on record the self-denying efforts of all those workers whose "untiring work arid energy had been instrumental in giving an opportunity of showing the position in which the cause now stands, arid out of 7C electorates only 15 carried continuance with a majority, for' liquor, 60 had a majority for n6-license, and of these no fewer than 15 secured 55 per cent, majority. A total vote of 221,471 was given at tlie last poll, an increase of .22,703 over the vote -of 198,768 in 1905. For the whole Dominion the majority for no-license was 33,331 —one of the most gratifying features of the elections, and one which has greatly impressed the whole people. The report continued to make mention of the visit of the. •'Ren R. B. Hammond, of Sydney, of the Rev. H. F. Palmer, Mrs Harrison Lee. Miss Hughes, and Mr Bruntnell, all of whom helped on the cause delivering lectures in all pints of the Dominion. Temperance instruction in schools was then slightly referred to. The report then dealt very strongly with the issue of .wholesale licenses in the King Country and concluded with a clause relating to reduction issue. It was then'decided to refer several details to a committee to report to the Convention on Thursday. The balance-sheet' was delivered by the Rev. Mr Dawson. There was a balance of £63 14s lOd of income over expenditure Tevealed. Assets were shown to be.,£236 2s lOd. 'Mr Weslejf Spragg, of Auckland, was . again elected president.
