DUNEDIN, June 14
At the Police Court this'morning, George Moody, tobacconist, was charged with making cigarettes by hand without having a warrant to do so. The Collector of Customs said defendant had employed a cigarette maker to make cigarettes in his window during Industries Week. The Customs looked upon the manufacture of cigarettes without a warrant as a serious matter, as when tobacco was cut up it was impossible to trace where it came from. Defendant pleaded ignorance of the law on tho, matter, and said he had made no attempt to make . cigarettes secretly. A fine of £10 and costs was imposed. In tho City Police Court to-day, before Mr*H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., Loui3 Morris was charged that on the Ist May he was adjudged a bankrupt, and that three years before the commencement of the* bankruptcy he did fail to keep such books of account as are usual and proper in a business carried on by him or to sufficiently set forth his business transactions so as to disclose his financial position. Accused was committed for trial.
