RAILWAY COLLISION AT PICTON.
(Per Press Association.)
BLENHEIM. June 14
A collision occurred at the railway station this morning between a 'goody train waiting to be despatched to Seddon. It is stated that the driver of the Picton train had been accustome-i to.the Westinghouse brake, and did not allow sufficient space for the old brakes to operate. When the driver of the Seddon train saw a collision was inevitable he moved his train slowly off, thereby lessening the.force of the :m----pact. However, serious. damage was done to both trains, some carriages being badly smashed, the front plate of tho • Picton engine stove in, and the guard over the cowcatcher toi;ii off. There were several passengers in the Seddon train, including three ladies, one of whom —Mrs Andrews, of Flaxbourne^ —was severely cut about the face. The other passengers escaped with bruises and shock.
